This Privacy Policy describes how ink (the "App") handles data. We are committed to absolute user privacy. Our policy is simple: what happens on your device stays on your device.

✦ Zero Network Transmission

ink has ZERO network permissions. The App does not request the android.permission.INTERNET permission from the Android Operating System. This means it is mathematically and technically impossible for the App to transmit, upload, or share any data from your device to our servers, third parties, or any external entities.

1.1 Information Accessed and Usage

To function as an elegant music screensaver and visualizer dock, the App accesses specific system-level integrations locally. All processing is transient and executed entirely in-memory:

Active Media Playback (BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE): The App reads active media session metadata (track title, artist, album, duration, playback position, and cover art) to render the customized E-Ink visualizer screen. This information is read locally and in real-time. It is never stored or cached persistently, and is completely cleared from memory when playback stops.
Interactive Screensaver (BIND_DREAM_SERVICE): Used to register and display the App as an interactive fullscreen Daydream screensaver when your device is plugged in or docked.
Device Battery Status: The App listens to local system broadcasts (Intent.ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED) to display your current battery level and charging status on the screensaver dashboard.
Local User Settings: Preferences (such as chosen layout themes, 4-level grayscale mode, or display shifting toggles) are stored locally on your device's private storage using SharedPreferences. Deleting the App removes these preferences entirely.

1.2 In-App Purchases & Billing Privacy

The App offers an optional, lifetime premium unlock called ink Pro. We value your financial and personal privacy:

Payment Processing via Google Play: All in-app transactions, payment authorizations, and billing details are processed securely and directly by Google Play. We do not host payment gateways, collect billing details, or store your credit card information.
Offline Billing Architecture: Even when purchasing ink Pro, the App does not require internet permission. The App binds locally via secure Inter-Process Communication (IPC) to the Google Play Store system application on your device. The Play Store app handles the network transactions and securely communicates the purchase confirmation state back to the App locally.
No User Accounts: Your purchase is linked to your Google Play Account. The App does not require registration, login, email addresses, or usernames. Purchase validation is verified directly against your device's Google Play Store client.

1.3 Third-Party SDKs and Ads

To keep the App clean, performant, and secure, the App contains:

NO Advertising Libraries (no Google AdMob, Unity Ads, etc.).
NO Telemetry or Analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, Flurry, Mixpanel, etc.).
NO Crash Reporting Libraries that upload dumps. Crash logs are handled privately by the Android OS and are only shared with us if you explicitly opt-in to share them via Google Play Console diagnostics.

1.4 Children's Privacy

Because the App does not request personal identifiers, collect user accounts, or transmit any data over the internet, it is inherently compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We do not collect or process data from any user, including children under 13.

2. Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your download, installation, and use of the ink mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

2.1 License Grant

We grant you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable license to install and use the App on your personal Android device strictly in accordance with these Terms.

2.2 In-App Purchases (ink Pro Unlock)

One-Time Lifetime Purchase: The "ink Pro Unlock" is a one-time, non-consumable, permanent license that unlocks additional styling customization (such as the dynamic Artwork theme). It is not a recurring subscription.
Billing and Google Play Account: All purchases are billed through Google Play. You agree to comply with Google Play's Terms of Service and payment policies. Your purchase is tied to your Google Play account and can be restored on other devices using the same Google Play account.
Refund Policy: Refunds are handled exclusively according to Google Play’s refund guidelines. You may request a refund through your Google Play Order History or by contacting Google Play Support.

2.3 Intellectual Property and Brand Disclaimers

All intellectual property rights, source code, visual layouts, and graphics in the App are owned by the App's developers. The App functions as a visualization companion that reads playback metadata via standard Android system APIs.

CRITICAL DISCLAIMER: All third-party trademarks, product names, logos, and brands (including but not limited to Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, VLC, etc.) are the property of their respective owners. The App is an unofficial companion utility and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with any of these third-party services or parent corporations in any way.

2.4 "AS IS" Warranty Disclaimer

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developers disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will meet your requirements, run uninterrupted, be error-free, or operate in combination with any other hardware or software.

2.5 Display Wear, Screen Burn-In & Thermal Disclaimer

THE APP IS DESIGNED TO BE RUN AS A DOCK COMPANION AND CHARGING SCREENSAVER, OFTEN RUNNING FOR EXTENDED SESSIONS.

While the App incorporates safety mechanisms—specifically anti-ghosting pixel shifting (offsets the layout randomly every 2 minutes) and automatic screensaver brightness dimming—you acknowledge and agree that:

Certain display technologies, including but not limited to E-Ink (Electronic Paper), OLED, AMOLED, and LCD, are inherently susceptible to temporary image retention, ghosting, screen burn-in, battery degradation, or hardware heating if static layouts are illuminated or displayed continuously.
YOU ASSUME ALL RISK associated with screen burn-in, display deterioration, battery degradation, thermal wear, or other hardware failures resulting from your use of the App.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE'S SCREEN, DISPLAY INTERFACES, BATTERY LIFE, HARDWARE COMPONENTS, OR OTHER PHYSICAL LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF PREVIOUSLY ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.

2.6 Termination

We reserve the right, without notice and at our sole discretion, to terminate your license to use the App, and to block or prevent your future access to and use of the App.

2.7 Changes to these Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Your continued use of the App following any updates constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
